It has been a long road getting this Fury to completion. The Fury had been sitting ifor 30 years. This is not a complete restore, but a daily driver rebuild.

We picked up the car in August of 2006 but due to a health issue work was not started until 2008. We had hoped to make it to Hot Augusts Nights In Reno in August of 2008, but it did not happen.

There was so much work that had to be done. The fenders hood and trunk lids were replaced, there was many hours of sanding and welding up emblem and trim holes, the replacing of the passenger side floor plus many other projects completed. 2009 came and went and we still did not make it to Hot August Nights.

The engine space painting out first so that the drive train could be installed, which included rebuilding the transmission and rear end and replacing the engine with 360HP 360 small block. Since it was now October it meant we did not see Hot August Nights for 2010.

We spent countless hours on working on the wiring system and had to replace the complete dash wiring harness. The entire braking system was replaced. The gauges were rebuilt and panel painted. Door panels were recovered and replacement buckets seats were found. In May with the car now running we were able to make it to the Klamath Kruise only in primer and be in the work in progress class.

The final paint was applied and then we headed to Hot August Nights in Reno, NV.

The guy said you want it, it yours
I am the proud
new owner.
Getting it ready to start the rebuild in my shop
Starting to remove
all the trim.
Hoods off, cleaning and painting engine space.
After degreasing and sanding starting to prime.
1st coat of primer. I put on three coats of primmer total. It is a power steering car.
Final paint.
Note new master cylinder. The brakes even work!
This is the way the trunk looked when I got the car.
Rusty trunk!
Sometimes that free car isn’t always free.
Trunk cleaned.
I treated with a rust converter then painted two coats of primer.
1st coat of primer
I ordered all the pans for the floor. The quality of the replacement pans is not the best.
Body work needed behind the right door.
He also gave me a 4 door car for parts. It was easier to replace the fender.
360 Hi Po.
This is a complete engine I had that has only 1000 miles on it.
1/20/08 I removed the rest of the rear trim and tail lights
1/20/08 Cut out the floor and treated rust with Rust Doctor. Great stuff and no fumes.
First fit of the rear floor pan. I had to be careful when removing not to damage the ER brake line holder.
I picked up both these pans from Auto Body Specialties. For some reason they overlap over 4”
This is how the part came. Not a very good quality. I will try not to use the bad part of this pan.
What was left of the old floor.
Rear and center pan installed. The next time I have a car that needs floor pans I am going to hire a welder!
This job is a lot of work. I am not that good of a welder and I am sure it shows. But it is getting done.
Update 2/9/08 I finished the floor pan replacement.
Completed floor pan replacement. Kid’s don’t try this at home. It was heck of a lot of work!
Most of the trim stripped off the front end.
April/08 Drilled the holes for the trim on the replacement fender
Removed the old tank. Lots of clean up before I install the new one. There was still 30 year old gas in it.
New gas tank.
Front end bare.
I can’t afford a new one so I will fix this one the best I can.
June 2008 update. This is after 15 hours of sanding.
Most of the body work done. I welded up all the emblem holes but I am retaining the side moldings.
Sanded it down with 80 grit and then all the way back to 220 grit.
I ended up removing all the trim around the windows. I found 30 years of dirt under the trim.
Loading the car up to head off to the paint shop.
We did not have any ramps for the trailer so we loaded it on to our roll back tow truck, then onto the trailer.
All loaded and ready to head to the paint shop.
